Ranger reports from Nature Notes:
March 17-18 – The following notes concern the activity in the Norris Geyser Basin: new activity west of Congress Pool; mud geyser, inactive, except for subterranean roar of steam and splashing of water; Hurricane Vent is very active; great piles of ice encroach upon Valentine Geyser from the northeast; Constant Geyser to heights of from 10 to 13 feet there is more activity and more run-off than in the past from Porcelain Hill. (W. E. K.) May 15 – The first elk calf (Cervus canadensis) of the season was seen today by Dr. Murie and Mr. Russell Grater about a mile northeast of Tower Falls Ranger Station. (W. E. K.) June 29 – Today while conducting the "geyser chasing" caravan from Old Faithful a bit of activity was discovered at the Black Pearl Pools in Biscuit Basin. As the party was standing on the walk at the side of the pools a huge gas bubble rose and broke with a great detonation in the lower hot pool. The unexpected "explosion" startled the visitors and suggested the possibilities of another disturbance such as that of the winter of 1935 when huge pieces of rock were thrown from this Pool to distances as great as seventy feet.
