There are a total of twelve public campgrounds in Yellowstone.
The following five campgrounds each offer some services beyond the basics:
Bridge Bay Campground - open from mid-May to mid-September
Canyon Campground - open from early June to early September
Grant Village Campground - open from mid-June to early October
Madison Campground - open from early May to late October
Fishing Bridge RV Park - open from mid-May to mid-September
Showers and laundries are available at Canyon, Grant Village, and Fishing Bridge RV Park.
Fishing Bridge RV Park is the only campground offering water, sewer, and electrical
hookups; it is for hard-sided vehicles only (no tents or tent trailers). Please note that
Golden Access and Golden Age discounts do not apply at Fishing Bridge RV Park.
Seven of Yellowstone's campgrounds are operated by the National Park Service and are on a
first-come, first-served basis. During the height of the tourist season (late June through
mid-August), these seven campgrounds are full by late morning so it is best to obtain a
site early in the day. These NPS-operated campgrounds are located at:
Mammoth - open year-round
Norris - open from mid-May to late September
Indian Creek - open from early June to mid-September
Lewis Lake - open from early June to late October
Pebble Creek - open from early June to the end of September
Slough Creek - open from late May to late October
Tower Fall - open from mid-May to the end of September
Following the fires of 1988, thousands of dead trees, known as snags, were left standing
in Yellowstone. These snags may fall with very little warning, so please be cautious and
alert for falling snags in campsites.
CAMPING RULES
Camping or overnight vehicle parking in pullouts, parking areas,
picnic grounds, or any place other than a designated campground is not permitted. There
are no overflow camping facilities. However, camping is often available in neighboring
communities and forests outside the park. All camping is limited to 14 days between June
15 and Labor Day, and to 30 days the rest of the year. Check out time for all campgrounds
is 10:00 am.
Respect the rights of other campers and comply with park regulations by adhering to quiet
hours, 8:00 pm to 8:00 am, which are strictly enforced. No generators, loud audio devices
or other noise disturbances are allowed during this time. Generators are permitted only at
Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant Village, Madison, Mammoth, Norris Campgrounds, and Fishing
Bridge RV Park, and only from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Since food and odors attract bears, items such as cooking stoves, utensils, coolers, trash
bags, food, and toiletries may not be left outside or in tents or tent trailers, unless
they are in immediate use!
