With a taste of spring across much of the country last week, it got me looking forward to the return of the birds. Our home in Island Park Idaho gets a fair amount of species, especially in the spring and early summer. So I thought I would post some new photos of the birds we have seen since we posted some last spring. Photo equipment is not the best, but we do the best with what we have. Hope you enjoy the magnificent colors as only nature can provide.
We had a late spring snow and that seemed to stimulate a lot of birds coming into the back yard. The chickadees and pine siskins were especially friendly in going for the seeds, but I got a couple of other species as well.
This Mountain Chickadee is usually the first to come. If he sees me outside, he will buzz by me asking for some seeds

The Black Grosbeaks come close but have stopped short of coming to my hand.

I had a pair of Evening Grosbeaks come to my hand. The male flew off rather quickly but the female stayed for a while.

The Pine Siskins were the most numerous and aggressive with getting at the seeds.

I wonder how many times a Black Grosbeak and Lazuli Bunting have been in the same photo.

We started putting out some oranges and we had a male Bullocks Oriole for the first time in our yard. Notice the legs doing the splits.

This guy was strutting his stuff along side a mountain road in Tennessee last spring just before we headed back out to Idaho.

We are looking forward to getting back out to our birds in a couple months.
Birds of Island Park
Re: Birds of Island Park
Awesome!
We've put a couple feeders in our backyard. Hope it brings in some birds.
