"... comfortable cabin and friendly and responsive staff ..."
In late May we flew in from Russia and spent five days and four nights at the Absaroka Mountain Lodge just outside the East Entrance. Although we spent most of our days in the park, the lodge was a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

It is tucked away in a quiet little canyon just off the extraordinarily scenic highway running along the Shoshone River to Cody. That drive has always been one of my favorites. Although the lodge is outside the park we saw great amount of wildlife (lots of moose, several grizzlies and a wolf) along this route during our daily drives to Lake Yellowstone and beyond. We even had bighorn sheep staring down at us from the cliffs that tower above the lodge.

We had my five-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter along with us, which made the comfortable cabin and friendly and responsive service very much appreciated. They lent us their microwaves to heat soup, spatulas to flip pancakes and a large number of other things that made our stay a relaxing as it could be with two demanding children. The lodge is run as a family business and it’s obvious that they really care about doing it right.

While I personally am not a big fan of horseback riding, they offer a number of different rides out into the Shoshone National Forest. I’m sure that next time we come back I’ll take my son on one of the cookouts, because that’s probably something every kid should have the chance to do.

The prices are reasonable and we even got a early-season discount on Memorial Day Weekend, which surprised me. In short, we have no reservations about recommending this place.
