On occasion Clint Wilkes will offer a story of interest to everyone who loves Yellowstone and the surrounding area. Some stories will be humorous, others will illustrate a point.  You the reader are invited to respond by email.

BELGRADE, Mont. (YNET) -- The Park opens Friday!!!  It's great living this close to Yellowstone and being able to drive to the Park any time I get an afternoon or a day off. Yep, this is one of those "don't you wish you were here" P&P columns I'm writing to make everyone envious, ha ha.

Actually this winter was very mild in Montana which made me even more anxious for the Park to get open so I could drive to the Old Faithful area. When the road to Old Faithful opens Friday, I'll be ready to go!

If you get to the park this summer, send us a post card and we will put it up on the wall in the office.  Both Bruce and I enjoy getting letters, postcards and emails from all the other Yellowstone fans.

See you in Yellowstone!

  WOLF UPDATE
News Brief

American Farm Bureau attorneys do not plan to appeal a federal ruling last year that allows wolves to remain in the Yellowstone ecosystem.  The organization had until last Thursday to make an appeal, but has not done so.  Last year's ruling upheld the federal program that brought wolves into Yellowstone and the surrounding area from Canada.

Following the ruling last year, there were fears that area ranchers might start illegally shooting the wolves, but thus far this has not been the case.  Instead, steps are being taken to more fully address ranchers' concerns within parameters that protect the wolves.

  BISON UPDATE
News Brief

The number of bison wintering on the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole has doubled over the past four years, according to Refuge managers.  Some 500 bison are now sharing the Refuge with nearly 7000 elk.  This is raising concerns that that overgrazing might occur, as well as poses the risk of more bison attacks upon wildlife watchers.
