Yellowstone Wildlife - Antelope

Antelope are found mainly in the Northern section of the park. One of the best places is the dirt one-way road that runs from Mammoth Hot Spring to Gardnier. There are almost always some in site are the Northeast entrance station near Gardnier. Also look for them on the road between Mammoth Hot Spring and Tower Jct and in the Lamar Valley area.

The antelope or pronghorn is the fastest animal inhabiting the plains of North America. Capable of
reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour, they can also leap 20 feet in a single bound. The
Yellowstone pronghorn population once reached an estimated high of 2,000 animals at the
turn of the 19th century, approached extinction by 1920, and now numbers about 500.
Pronghorns are reddish-brown or tan with a white streaked underbelly, neck and rump.
Horns are present in both sexes, but are smaller, sometimes lacking on females. They are
also usually taller than females, about three feet at the shoulder, weighing between 110
and 140 pounds
